Ellensburg, Washington- KOA, Yakima River, bike ride (7/8/20); Blog post 92

We arrived at the KOA in Ellensburg, Washington, our home for the next 3 days. This KOA is right off the 90 highway. It is a perfect location for those doing a 1 night stop over. The park is right on the Yakima river, though there is no swimming, tubing, kayaking allowed. The water is really too cold for swimming anyways.

Our first day here (7/7/20), we took a walk down to the river. I learned how cold the water was when I decided to go in the water ankle deep. I think I lasted about 3 minutes before everything was numb.

On 7/8/20 we put our bikes on the truck and drove to the only bike trail we could find in Ellensburg. The bike trail begins and ends at the Ellensburg Rodeo.  The bike path starts on a very very very rocky path. After about 1 mile of this path, we ventured out onto side streets of downtown Ellensburg. Again we learned that the people of Washington are not as friendly to bike riders as in Oregon.

Later that day, we ventured back to the river where I was able to entice Neil to go in the water, to his ankles for a few minutes. The water is so cold, it numbs the skin.

We decided later that evening to take our bikes down some back roads from the KOA. Came across this quintessential farm house.  After 1.5 miles we turned around because we did not feel safe. There were so many cars passing us, and going really fast as they were passing us.  We made it back safe and decided to just put the bikes on the rack and hope the next destination will be more bike friendly.
