Yellowstone before & after snowstorm and Big Springs National Natural Landmark in Island Park, Idaho (May 2021) Blog post 153

After we left Idaho Falls, Idaho, we headed for Red Rock RV Park in Island Park, Idaho. This park is 22 miles from the west entrance of Yellowstone.

REDROCK RV PARK

The Rv park is the most expensive park we have stayed at to date at $76/day, but with its proximity to Yellowstone, I completely understand and were extremely thankful we were able to get a reservation. It is a very nice and clean park and the sites are long and wide and spacious from other Rvers. Oh and did I mention the fabulous views!

BIG SPRINGS

The day after we arrived we wanted to explore the surrounding area and found ourselves at an absolutely amazing Big Springs, which is a National Natural Landmark. The springs are so tranquil and peaceful place to visit . The natural bubbly water is so relaxing to listen to along with all the birds singing.

I planted another rock!

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK-

                                    Before Snowstorm

We visited Yellowstone on 2 separate days. It was Neil's first visit and my second time. We entered the West entrance and soon after we were greeted by so many bison's. The scenery throughout Yellowstone is so amazing. We decided to see the Grand Prismatic springs first before heading to see Old Faithful. If you have never been, it is an absolute must see, once in a lifetime!  See video below to see all of the Bison and the rest of day 1 at Yellowstone NP.

GRAND PRISMATIC SPRINGS
The only word I could produce to explain the Prismatic springs is "AMAZING"

CLEPSYDRA GEYSER

FOUNTAIN PAINT POT

EXCELSIOR GEYSER

OLD FAITHFUL GEYSER

It is amazing to see this geyser and how it is erupts almost like clockwork. The eruption we saw lasted for more than 3 minutes. Picture of us right before eruption.

SNOWSTORM HITS ISLAND PARK, IDAHO

We awoke to snow, and then another snow storm hit. All the water pipes were frozen and camp workers were walking around from site to site with propane torches melting the ice. Neil did not wait for them to get to us before he took matters into his own hands by wrapping the pipe with heated cord and then wrapped it with tin foil. The water was back working and we were Golden again.

HEADING BACK TO
YELLOWSTONE AFTER SNOWSTORM

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK                                                                            AFTER Snowstorm

We went back to Yellowstone after the snowstorm to see the park covered in snow and see the many waterfalls within the park that we were not able to see the other day when we visited. See YouTube video to see the amazing scenery, more bison, and waterfalls.

GIBBON FALLS

The first falls we came to was Gibbon Falls which looked like milk flowing over the cliff. There are 2 areas to view the falls. The upper viewing area is near the parking and the lower viewing is a trek down a ways to get another great view.

NORTH RIM INPIRATION POINT

After leaving Gibbons Falls, we ended up at the North Rim Inspriration point where 2 more waterfalls can be seen from the distance
